“You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)
“…And the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” (Mark 4:19)
COMMENT: Some of you “seasoned” citizens (and maybe some who are not too “seasoned”) might remember the movie about the life of Gypsy Rose Lee. She was – how can I say this politely? - an exotic dancer. My favorite song from that musical is “Let Me Entertain You.” You know, that idea is exactly what this world system is trying to sell us. They offer us iPods, camera cell phones, Blackberries, video games, movies mailed directly to our homes, DVD’s from our favorite television programs, cable television with hundreds of channels etc., etc, etc. We Christians should not become trapped in this entertainment craze. Now I am not saying that we should not participate in any of these activities, but we must not allow them to become “idols”. We need to continually evaluate our activities to see if there are things in our lives that are becoming more important than our time in prayer, bible study, meditating on God’s Word and congregating with the brethren.
SCRIPTURE STUDY: Matt. 6:24, Eph. 5:5, and Co.3:5
WISE SAYING: IF YOU THINK LIKE THE WORLD THINKS, YOU WILL ACT LIKE THE WORLD ACTS.
