“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”(Phil. 3:14)
COMMENT: Several years ago, while driving to Detroit, my nephew and I had clear sailing until we got to Cleveland when that “lake effect” snow began to blow horizontally. It wasn’t to the point of being a whiteout, but it was pretty bad. We almost made a decision to stop and get a motel room. Instead, my nephew decided to stop driving 80 mph and slow down to 35. We went on, slowly but surely, believing that God had His angels encamped around us. As we neared Toledo, the weather improved greatly. We came through that ordeal unscathed. When I think about what Jesus said concerning the tribulations in our lives, a song comes to mind:”I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.” When we become Children of God we are not immune to the trials and tribulations in this world, but we can take heart because He has overcome the world. Listen and be elated by this Amplified Bible version of John 16:33. “I have told you these things, so that in Me (Jesus) you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]” So when everything in your life seems to be closing in on you, keep pressing on because you have a Friend who sticks closer to you than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)
